Students have lots of options to chooose from today when trying to decide which college to attend. One of our goals at College Factual is to give you as much information as we can - such as our “Best Value Accounting Schools” ranking - to help you make that decision.
Accounting is one of the most popular majors in the nation, ranking 8th of all the majors we analyze. In 2020-2021, 99,265 degrees were awarded to students with this major. In 2019-2020, accounting graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $47,712 and had an average of $26,539 in loans still to pay off.
For this year’s “Best Value Accounting Schools” ranking, we looked at 1,270 colleges that offer a degree in accounting. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality accounting programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as the cost to attend the school after aid is awarded and overall quality of the accounting program at the school. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

Top 25 Best Value Colleges for Accounting
Out of the 1,270 schools in the Best Value Accounting Schools that were part of this year’s ranking, Brigham Young University - Provo landed the #1 spot on the list. Provo, Utah is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out ’s accounting degrees to 392 students in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education it offers, BYU is also in the top of our “Best Accounting Schools” ranking. It’s ranked in the top 5% of all schools on our “Best Accounting Schools” list. The estimated yearly cost for Brigham Young University - Provo is $13,474 for Accounting students.
The undergrad student loan default rate at the school is 1.3%, which is quite low when compared to the national default rate of 10.1%. Students who start out at the school are likely to stick around. The freshman retention rate is 92%.
