Our “Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s” ranking is one tool we have developed to help in this regard.
Computer Science is the 19th most popular major in the country with 53,722 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, computer science graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $66,561 and had an average of $23,565 in loans still to pay off.
At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 12,651 computer science graduates with average earnings and debt of $56,398 and $43,194 respectively.
This year’s “Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s” ranking analyzed 191 colleges that offered a degree in computer science. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality computer science programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the computer science program at the school and the cost of the school after aid is awarded among other things. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Northwest Missouri State University. It ranked #4 on our 2022 Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s list. Northwest is a medium-sized public school situated in Maryville, Missouri. It awarded 160 masters’s compsci degrees in 2019-2020.

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign ranked #8 on this year’s Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s list. Champaign, Illinois is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s compsci degrees to 384 students in 2019-2020.

Villanova University ranked #12 on this year’s Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s list. This fairly large school is located in Villanova, Pennsylvania, and it awarded 19 masters’s compsci degrees in 2019-2020.
